Coastal protection works resume in southern France

Coastal reinforcement projects have resumed or commenced in several areas of southern France to combat marine submersion and erosion.

In Gigaro, the Communauté de communes du Golfe de Saint-Tropez has begun rehabilitating 200 meters of sea wall to protect the promenade from increasingly frequent winter storms. The project includes removing existing rock armor to restore natural sediment movement and coastal balance. These works are expected to continue until spring 2027, during which time beach access and certain parking areas will be restricted.

In Menton, coastal protection works east of the city have resumed following a summer hiatus. Managed by the Smiage in partnership with local and state authorities, the project targets the Hawaii beach area through December and the Sablettes zone through April 2027. Key interventions include replacing a pontoon with a pile-supported structure and shortening the central tenon of the Sablettes beach to improve the natural circulation of water and sediment.
