Coastal wave alerts issued for Chile's Coquimbo region and Ecuador's beaches
Chile's Navy maritime meteorology centre warned of strong swells moving from the Gulf of Penas to Arica, with the most intense waves expected between June 26 and June 30. The alert advises sailors and beachgoers to avoid rocky sectors and refrain from entering the sea during high tide periods.
Ecuador's Oceanographic and Antarctic Institute (Inocar) placed twelve beaches under a red‑flag warning for high‑energy waves from June 23 to June 25, citing strong southwest‑originating swells that could produce hazardous rip currents. Authorities urged tourists, fishermen and coastal residents to stay out of the water and follow port‑capitol signals.
Both agencies recommend monitoring official updates and respecting safety measures while the conditions persist.
