Cocentaina prepares for major Moros i Cristians festivals honoring San Hipólito
Cocentaina, a town in the Valencian Community, will host its annual Moros i Cristians celebrations from today until 10 August. The four‑day event honors San Hipólito Mártir, the town’s patron saint since 1600, and features music, fireworks, parades and traditional ceremonies such as the “Nit de l’Olla” and the Entrada of Moros i Cristians.
This year’s programme coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Union Nacional de Entidades Festeras de Moros y Cristianos (UNDEF), marking half a century of coordination among the festivals. Mayor Rubén Muñoz highlighted the cultural and historical significance, noting the festivities’ roots in the early 18th century and their status as a recognised tourist attraction of regional interest.
