Cochabamba Mayor announces major infrastructure and economic development plan

Cochabamba Mayor Manfred Reyes Villa has announced a major development package aimed at economic reactivation, transportation modernization, and ecological preservation.

Key infrastructure projects include the reconfiguration of the Muyurina roundabout, the optimization of bicycle lanes, and the modernization of the traffic light network. A significant milestone is the delivery of Section 4 of the South Costanera Avenue, a two-way rigid pavement connecting to the new bus terminal in the La Tamborada area. Additionally, the mayor announced the start of the ‘Integration Tunnel’ project toward Sacaba, a large-scale roadwork featuring two lanes per direction and integrated bicycle paths to reduce intermunicipal congestion.

To boost tourism and the local economy, the city is advancing construction on the new FEXCO Auditorium, expected to be delivered by September 14. Other economic initiatives include the construction of the Papa Paulo and Alejo Calatayud model markets, the restoration of the Metropolitan Cathedral, and plans for a ‘Turquoise Beach’ project.
