Cochabamba organizations announce march against government economic policies

Social organizations aligned with former President Evo Morales have announced a massive march in Cochabamba scheduled for September 4, 2026. Following a meeting with Morales and six federations from the Cochabamba Tropics, these groups declared a state of permanent mobilization to protest the economic policies of President Rodrigo Paz’s administration.

The protesters characterize the government's actions as “neoliberal, impoverishing, and privatizing,” accusing the administration of attempting to return the country to a “neocolonial State.” Key grievances include the elimination of the Ministry of Planning, which they view as foreign interference, and the alleged influence of the United States, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Southern Command on domestic affairs.

A primary demand is the repeal of Supreme Decree 5676, which pertains to diesel price adjustments. Demonstrators argue this decree negatively impacts transportation, production, and the general cost of living. Additionally, the organizations have called for travel bans (arraigo) against President Rodrigo Paz, his family, and his cabinet members.
