Cockroach Janta Party emerges as major Indian youth movement

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a satirical youth movement in India, has gained massive social media traction following a controversial remark by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. During a May 15, 2026, hearing regarding fraudulent educational degrees, the Chief Justice referred to individuals using bogus credentials as “cockroaches” and “parasites”.

While the Supreme Court clarified the remarks were directed at fraudsters rather than the general youth population, viral clips led to the creation of the CJP by Abhijeet Dipke. The movement, which identifies as an “anti-establishment roach-squad,” uses memes, dark humor, and self-deprecation to engage Gen Z followers. Within 48 hours, the group's Instagram following reportedly surpassed that of major established political parties.

Despite government efforts to withhold its original X handle, the movement has continued to grow under new digital identities. Beyond its satirical aesthetic, the CJP has proposed a political platform that includes calls for restrictions on retired judges accepting political appointments.
