Cockroach Janta Party plans New Delhi protest over electoral roll controversy

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a youth-led movement, has called for a ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest at Central Park in Connaught Place, New Delhi, on October 16. The demonstration aims to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar following controversies regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, which reportedly resulted in the deletion of over 13 crore voters.

Authorities have implemented significant security measures in response to the planned rally. Delhi Police have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS in the Connaught Place area, and the New Delhi Municipal Council has closed Central Park for two days citing administrative reasons. Thousands of security personnel have been deployed to manage potential confrontations.

The movement follows the recent jailing of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were sentenced to five days of judicial custody for trespassing at Jantar Mantar. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has expressed readiness to face arrest and has accused the government of suppressing dissent. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of India declined to intervene immediately to stop the protest, noting that the Delhi High Court is already handling related petitions from local traders concerned about economic disruptions during the festive season.
