Cockroach Party youth movement expands from India to Pakistan
A youth-led protest movement dubbed the Cockroach Party originated in India, where demonstrators gathered at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and later called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s removal. Some commentators allege that foreign intelligence agencies, including the CIA, China’s MSS, Britain’s MI6, Turkey’s MIT and Ukraine’s intelligence, are attempting to exploit the protests.
In Pakistan, a new Instagram account called “Cockroach Party Pakistan” has attracted nearly 20,000 followers. The page mirrors the Indian campaign’s use of the cockroach symbol to highlight youth hardships such as unemployment, inflation and academic pressure. The account shares posts and messages that discuss these issues but is not linked to any registered political party.
