CODHEM calls for protection of indigenous women's rights

Víctor Leopoldo Delgado Pérez, president of the State of Mexico Human Rights Commission (CODHEM), called for the protection of the rights and leadership of indigenous women during a meeting in Tenango del Valle. The event, titled ‘Indigenous women: voices that create and weave knowledge for life’, was held in collaboration with the local government.

Delgado Pérez highlighted that systemic inequalities, racism, and exclusion continue to hinder indigenous women's access to education, healthcare, justice, political participation, and dignified employment. He emphasized that institutional and societal commitment is necessary to ensure these rights are effectively upheld across all social spheres.

The gathering included representatives from various ethnic groups, including Nahua, Tlahuica, Triqui, Mazahua, and Otomí communities. Participants discussed their roles in language preservation, territorial defense, and community organization. The event also featured a Tlalmanalli ceremony conducted in the Nahuatl language to strengthen cultural identity.
