Human rights advocacy in State of Mexico

Overview

The Human Rights Commission of the State of Mexico (CODHEM) has been active in addressing diverse social and human rights issues within the region.

In late September, CODHEM president Víctor Leopoldo Delgado Pérez advocated for the protection of indigenous women's rights during a meeting in Tenango del Valle. The initiative focused on addressing systemic inequalities, racism, and exclusion affecting Nahua, Tlahuica, Triqui, Mazahua, and Otomí communities regarding access to justice, healthcare, and political participation.

By mid-October, the commission’s focus shifted to monitoring protests on the Mexico–Toluca highway. CODHEM provided accompaniment to ‘madres buscadoras’ (searching mothers) and families demanding dialogue with state authorities regarding missing persons. During these protests, the commission reported verbal confrontations and one instance of physical aggression, subsequently calling for the protection of all individuals and the maintenance of free transit.
