CODHEM monitors protests by mothers seeking missing persons in Mexico

The Human Rights Commission of the State of Mexico (CODHEM) is providing accompaniment to 'madres buscadoras' (searching mothers) and families protesting on the Mexico–Toluca highway. The commission's presence aims to observe the exercise of freedom of expression and protest rights while supervising authority actions.

Families are requesting a dialogue table with state authorities and relevant agencies to address their demands. CODHEM has reported verbal confrontations between protesters and private citizens, as well as reports of physical aggression resulting in one injured person. The commission has called on authorities to protect the integrity of all individuals, provide immediate medical attention if needed, and prevent further violence while also ensuring the right to free transit for commuters and cargo transporters.
