Cofepris issues alert over counterfeit Choragon fertility medication

Mexico’s Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has issued a health alert regarding the distribution of counterfeit Choragon 5000 UI (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) injectable solution, a medication used to stimulate female fertility.

Following a technical analysis with the manufacturer, Ferring, it was confirmed that the company has not distributed this specific presentation in Mexico since 2023. The counterfeit products are being sold through digital platforms, websites, and social media.

Authorities identified several irregular lot numbers: - Ampoule R14956AA: Listed expiration is November 2027, but the actual expiration is November 2022. - Diluent R01054AA: Listed expiration is November 2028, but the actual expiration is November 2022. - Lot K7C01MN: Not recognized as a lot manufactured by the company.

Cofepris warned that purchasing medications through informal channels, such as e-commerce sites or street markets, poses severe health risks. Because storage and transport conditions cannot be verified, the safety, quality, and efficacy of these products are compromised, potentially leading to serious adverse reactions.
