Cofepris issues alerts for adulterated and stolen medications in Mexico

Mexico’s Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has issued multiple health alerts regarding adulterated and stolen medications. The agency identified Argliptin-D 50 mg/850 mg, a combination medication containing sitagliptin and metformin used for type 2 diabetes, as adulterated. Specifically, lot LC89738 with an expiration date of February 2027 has been flagged. Cofepris noted that this specific lot was not imported to Mexico for commercialization.

Additionally, the authority reported the theft of medications belonging to AstraZeneca and a voluntary market recall for Apozemia XRMR 500 mg, which contains metformin. Cofepris warned that adulterated or stolen products pose significant health risks due to unknown compositions and potentially improper storage or transport conditions. The agency urged the public to only purchase medications from authorized distributors and to verify lot numbers before use.
