Coffee and cocoa prices climb as harvest delays and climate risks loom

International coffee futures rose on Monday, with Arabica gaining 1.33% in New York and robusta up 0.18% in London. Traders cited a slower-than‑expected Brazilian Arabica harvest, constrained global stocks and lingering climate uncertainty – especially El Niño‑related risks – as the main support for higher prices. Export volumes from Brazil have fallen to their lowest level since 2018, reinforcing concerns about short‑term supply.

Cocoa prices have also risen despite a rebound in current‑season output. Analysts note that market attention is shifting to the 2026/27 season in West Africa, where unusually heavy rains in Ivory Coast and Ghana have raised fears of soil water‑logging, fungal disease and below‑average pod counts. The perceived climate risk is being priced into contracts even as inventories recover.
