Caffeine consumption linked to slower aging and heart health benefits

Recent scientific research highlights the complex health impacts of caffeine and green tea consumption. A study from Queen Mary University of London suggests that caffeine may slow the aging process by activating a 500-million-year-old biological mechanism. Specifically, caffeine stimulates the AMPK enzyme system, which helps maintain metabolic balance, supports DNA repair, and manages cellular energy.

Regarding cardiovascular health, the American Heart Association notes that moderate caffeine consumption—roughly 3 to 5 cups of black coffee per day (up to 400mg)—is considered safe for most adults. This level of intake has been linked to a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, stroke, and heart failure. However, experts warn that excessive intake, particularly through energy drinks, can cause temporary increases in blood pressure, heart rate, and blood sugar levels.

Additionally, combining green tea extract with caffeine may enhance mental focus and metabolism. The L-theanine in green tea can mitigate the jittery effects of caffeine, while the antioxidants (catechins) in green tea may offer cellular protection and potentially reduce the risk of certain cancers.
