Chega accepts conditions for parliamentary inquiry into Luís Neves
The Chega party has agreed to the conditions set by José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, President of the Assembly of the Republic, to proceed with a parliamentary inquiry commission regarding the mandates of Luís Neves during his tenure as Director of the Judiciary Police.
Aguiar-Branco approved nine of the eleven points proposed by Chega. The two rejected points involved alleged interference by a son of the Minister of Internal Administration in journalistic activities and investigations into potential conflicts of interest with unidentified entities. André Ventura, leader of Chega, stated that the party will accept these limitations to ensure the investigation moves forward quickly, aiming for initial proceedings to occur before the discussion of the 2027 State Budget.
Separately, in Coimbra, opposition members have raised concerns regarding the transparency and impartiality of the process that led Maria Lencastre, a former Chega member, to a position as a social worker at the Eptoliva professional school. Critics questioned the timing of her appointment, noting that the school had recently integrated into the ITAP technical institute, an entity for which Lencastre had previously been named as a manager.
