Mastercard expands stablecoin services with new platform and security tools

Mastercard is expanding its digital asset capabilities through several major initiatives. Following its August 2026 acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure provider BVNK, the company launched the Mastercard Global Money Platform. This modular system uses a single API to allow banks, fintechs, and enterprises to manage multi-currency accounts that combine traditional fiat with stablecoins, supporting real-time conversion and card issuance in over 130 countries.

To address security concerns in the digital asset space, Mastercard also introduced Stablecoin Security. This service provides financial institutions with risk scores for stablecoin transactions by analyzing blockchain data and payment information to detect fraud, scams, and sanctions violations. The tool is slated for an initial rollout in North America, with global commercial availability planned for 2027.

In a separate development, Coinbase and Marqeta announced a partnership on October 16, 2026. This collaboration enables Marqeta’s enterprise customers to offer stablecoin-backed cards. Coinbase will manage custody, dollar conversion, and settlement via its Base blockchain, providing the backend infrastructure necessary for businesses to integrate stablecoin payments without building their own crypto systems.
