Regional transport and safety updates in Argentina, Chile, and Colombia
In Argentina, the government of Entre Ríos has implemented regulations for Law 10.975 to control vehicle weight. The measure aims to preserve road infrastructure and reduce asphalt deterioration caused by overweight cargo. The Provincial Highway Directorate (DPV) and the Entre Ríos Police will coordinate inspections using static and dynamic weighing systems. Violators face fines ranging from 154 to 20,000 Fixed Units (UF) depending on the excess weight.
In Chile, authorities in Colchane have restricted heavy vehicles exceeding 3,500 kilograms to the International Route 15-CH. This regulation, issued by the Ministry of Transport, seeks to protect rural roads and prevent drivers from using secondary routes to bypass customs and police controls.
Additionally, a rescue operation was conducted on the 27-CH international route near San Pedro de Atacama. After a truck lost control due to ice and blocked the road, Carabineros, the Chilean Army, and health teams evacuated 59 people, including bus passengers and motorcyclists, who were stranded in high-altitude conditions.
In Colombia, a bus accident on the Pan-American highway in Cauca resulted in five deaths and 64 injuries. Authorities are investigating whether an armed attack by four men preceded the vehicle overturning near Timbío.
