Mexico weather: Cold front 3 and Hurricane Vance trigger heavy rains
Multiple meteorological systems are impacting Mexico, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and temperature drops across various regions. Cold front number 3 is interacting with low-pressure channels and a subtropical jet stream, particularly affecting the northern and northwestern states. Chihuahua is expected to experience very heavy rainfall, with accumulations between 50 and 75 mm, alongside wind gusts of 50 to 70 km/h and the potential for whirlwinds.
Simultaneously, Hurricane Vance, a category 2 storm, is located southwest of the coasts of Guerrero and Michoacán. Its circulation is expected to produce heavy rains and high surf in Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, and Jalisco. Other regions, including the Yucatan Peninsula and central Mexico, may face showers and strong winds due to atmospheric instability.
In the northern states, the cold front is also contributing to a gradual decrease in temperatures, with some mountainous areas in Sonora and Chihuahua potentially seeing lows between -5 and 0 degrees Celsius. Authorities have issued warnings regarding electrical activity, hail, and potential flooding in affected municipalities.
