Colíder hosts regional stage of Mato Grosso school games
On June 27 the municipality of Colíder in northern Mato Grosso began the regional North stage of the 2026 Jogos Escolares Mato‑grosseenses, organized by the state Secretariat of Culture, Sport and Leisure (Secel‑MT). The competition, limited to students aged 12‑14, includes basketball, futsal, handball and volleyball.
Approximately 900 athletes, coaches and officials from 87 school teams representing 18 municipalities (Alta Floresta, Apiacás, Carlinda, Colíder, Guarantã do Norte, Itaúba, Marcelândia, Matupá, Nova Bandeirantes, Nova Canaã Do Norte, Nova Guarita, Nova Monte Verde, Nova Santa Helena, Novo Mundo, Paranaíta, Peixoto de Azevedo and Terra Nova do Norte) are competing. Winners in each sport and gender secure qualification for the state stage scheduled for July 10‑17 in Sapezal, with further individual events in Várzea Grande, Campo Verde and Sinop later in July.
The opening ceremony was held at the Cristo Evangelizador Community Center at 19:00 on June 27. Matches are taking place in local gymnasiums: Futsal at Ginásio Fernanda Alvim and AABB, basketball and handball at Ginásio Roque Guedes, and volleyball at Ginásio Atalaia. This is the final regional stage of the edition, which is the largest in the competition’s history.
