São Paulo court orders arrest of firefighter in fatal traffic dispute

The Court of Justice of São Paulo has ordered the preventive arrest of Marcos Paulo Fujarra de Oliveira, a 28-year-old military firefighter suspected of killing a medical student during a traffic dispute in Taubaté.

The victim, 23-year-old Bruno Hashimura San Juliano, was shot multiple times after a confrontation on Avenida Professor Walter Thaumaturgo. Investigations suggest the suspect broke the victim's car window before firing. While the defense claims the suspect acted out of fear of a robbery, authorities have indicted him for qualified homicide, citing a futile motive and the victim's inability to defend himself.

Judge Gilda Alves Barbosa Diodatti granted the arrest to protect public order and prevent potential witness intimidation. However, due to Brazilian electoral laws prohibiting arrests of voters during the election period, the warrant can only be executed after Tuesday, October 6.
