Coldiretti protests in Brussels over EU agricultural funding rules
A delegation of young farmers from Piedmont, including representatives from Coldiretti Cuneo, protested in Brussels to defend social conditionality within the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for 2028-2034. The group, joined by EFFAT, is opposing efforts to remove requirements that link EU agricultural funds to the respect of labor rights.
Coldiretti officials expressed concern that removing these conditions would allow European funds to be distributed to entities practicing illegal labor exploitation, such as 'caporalato' (illegal labor brokerage) and undeclared work. They argue this would create unfair competition for honest agricultural businesses that follow regulations. The protest coincides with the tenth anniversary of Italy's law against illegal labor brokerage, a measure Coldiretti supported through its Agromafia Observatory.
