Colle di Val d’Elsa issues measures to combat African Swine Fever

The municipality of Colle di Val d’Elsa has issued specific guidelines to combat the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF). The disease affects only pigs and wild boars and poses no risk to humans.

To prevent the unintentional transport of contaminated material, officials are urging citizens who visit forests and natural areas to follow strict hygiene protocols. Recommended measures include parking only in designated areas or on asphalt, staying on marked paths, keeping dogs on leashes, and avoiding camping.

Upon leaving wooded areas, individuals are advised to change and disinfect footwear using household products like bleach, and to disinfect the wheels of vehicles and bicycles. Once home, clothing should be washed, and shoes should be cleaned of mud before further disinfection. Pet owners are also instructed to wash their dogs' paws to remove any soil or mud residue.
