Collegiate cross country teams begin 2026 season with multiple invitational wins
Various collegiate cross country programs have commenced their 2026 seasons with diverse results across multiple invitational meets.
At the Spider Alumni Open, William & Mary achieved a dual victory, sweeping both the men's and women's team titles. The men's squad narrowly edged out Georgetown by one point, while the women finished 15 points ahead of the Hoyas. Georgetown University also saw success, securing second-place team finishes for both its men's and women's programs. Norfolk State University finished third in the men's race, led by individual winner Clinton Kipruto. James Madison University placed fourth in the same event.
Other notable performances include Syracuse University, which claimed both men's and women's team titles at the Harry Lang Cross Country Invitational. Rutgers University also secured wins for both its men's and women's squads at the Lehigh Invitational. Meanwhile, Penn State swept the Dolan Duals, and George Mason University's men won the 8k team title at the Salisbury University Fall Classic.
Individual highlights include Isaac Ndiwa winning the men's 4K at the Redhawks Invitational for Lindenwood, and Alex DeRoussel taking the individual title at the Salisbury University Fall Classic for George Mason.
