Colombia advances major railway and transit infrastructure projects

Colombia is advancing several major railway and transportation infrastructure projects to improve regional mobility and operational efficiency. The RegioTram de Occidente, which will connect Facatativá and Fontibón in Cundinamarca with Bogotá, has reached 42% construction progress. Key components include the El Corzo workshop, which is 46.79% complete, and the Control Command building. This project is expected to begin operations by late 2027.

Other regional developments include the RegioTram del Norte (Zipaquirá Train) moving through the bidding process, and feasibility studies for aerial cable systems in Soacha and La Calera.

On a national level, the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has resolved long-standing disputes regarding the Atlantic rail network with the concessionaire Fenoco. Additionally, the La Dorada-Chiriguaná railway project is nearing its construction phase following financial closure, with an estimated investment of USD 786.7 million over the next three years and four months. The ANI has also worked with the Ministry of Transport to secure necessary operating permits for the La Dorada-Chiriguaná and Bogotá-Belencito corridors.
