Colombia agricultural production faces sharp declines in coffee and mango sectors
Colombia is facing significant declines in its agricultural production, specifically within the coffee and mango sectors.
According to Germán Bahamón, general manager of the National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC), coffee production fell by 15% during the coffee year from October 2025 to September 2026, totaling 12.65 million 60-kilogram bags compared to 14.87 million the previous year. This represents a loss of 2.22 million bags. The decline has continued into 2026, with production between January and September dropping 10% compared to the same period in 2025. Excessive rainfall during the first half of 2026 is cited as a primary cause, as it disrupted flowering processes and delayed fruit maturation.
Simultaneously, the mango industry is experiencing a production drop of approximately 30% compared to the same date last year. Gloria Isabel Morales, general manager of Fedemango, attributed this to climate issues, production difficulties, and technical assistance challenges. The reduced availability of fruit is expected to lead to a 15% decrease in exports. The sector is also struggling with phytosanitary challenges, such as fruit flies and anthracnose disease, as well as regulatory costs and residue requirements for international markets.
