Colombia and Slovenia to Open Embassies in Jerusalem
Right‑wing governments in Colombia and Slovenia have pledged to restore full diplomatic ties with Israel and relocate their embassies to Jerusalem. In Colombia, President‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella and incoming foreign minister Omar Bola Escobar said the move will take effect when de la Espriella assumes office on Aug. 7. In Slovenia, new Prime Minister Janez Janša announced that the country will cancel its previous recognition of Palestine and shift its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, making it the first EU member to do so. Israel will reciprocate by opening an embassy in Ljubljana.
Both nations had recently reversed pro‑Palestinian policies, ending recognition of a Palestinian state and, in Slovenia’s case, ending a boycott of Israeli participation in cultural events.
