Colombia awards 6 billion‑peso contract to foreign ministry for De la Espriella's inauguration
The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has signed a contract worth more than 6 billion pesos to organize the logistics of president‑elect Abelardo de la Espriella’s inauguration slated for August 7. The agreement also covers other diplomatic events of the ministry through 2026 or until the allocated budget is exhausted.
The contract provides for accommodation of foreign delegations, official transport, protocol coordination, technical setup, invitation design and distribution, translation services, and logistical security. It comes amid debate over the president‑elect’s proposal to move the ceremony from Bogotá to a military garrison in Popayán, a change that requires congressional approval.
The deal underscores the incoming foreign minister Omar Bula Escobar’s role in managing high‑level diplomatic engagements as the new administration prepares to assume office.
