Colombia reactivates arrest warrants for seven Comuneros del Sur members
The Colombian Attorney General, Luz Adriana Camargo, has reactivated arrest warrants for seven members of the Comuneros del Sur, an armed dissident group of the ELN. This decision follows the termination of peace negotiations with the group by the administration of President Abelardo De La Espriella.
The reactivated warrants target individuals who had previously benefited from suspended arrest orders during the 'total peace' policy of the former administration under Gustavo Petro. The specific individuals named include Gabriel Yepes Mejía (alias HH), Oliverio Orfilio Pai Rodríguez (alias Chuki), Lorena Vanesa Sevillano Ortiz (alias Taliana), Santo Eligio García Natascuas (alias Santos), Jaime Eduardo Álvarez Riascos (alias Lalo), Leidy Paola Tapia Benavides, and Víctor Alfonso Rodríguez Cantizuz.
President De La Espriella has already signed an extradition order for Gabriel Yepes Mejía, the leader of the Comuneros del Sur in Nariño, though his current location remains unknown. The move marks a significant shift in national security policy, moving away from negotiation toward the legal submission of armed organizations to the justice system.
