Colombia debates regional infrastructure for National Development Plan

As Colombia prepares the 2026-2030 National Development Plan, regional leaders are proposing strategic projects to enhance connectivity and productivity. In the central region, representatives from Bogotá and Cundinamarca have presented a package focused on multimodal logistics, agricultural modernization, and coordinated public services.

Key infrastructure proposals for the central region include ensuring the navigability of the Magdalena River, constructing the Villeta-Guaduas dual carriageway, and maintaining the Bogotá-Villavicencio corridor. Other priorities involve modernizing railway networks and expanding cargo capacity at El Dorado International Airport.

In the southern regions, discussions highlight the need for better integration between Nariño and Putumayo. Despite existing connections via the Trans-Andean Pipeline and shared services in healthcare and education, these departments remain largely connected for resource extraction rather than integrated development. The southern corridor, including the Tumaco–Pasto–Mocoa–Puerto Asís route, serves as a vital link between the Pacific and Brazil.
