Colombia experiences ongoing seismic activity following major earthquake

Colombia continues to experience significant seismic activity following a devastating magnitude 7.4 earthquake on August 10, which caused over 330 deaths and left hundreds of thousands affected. On August 26, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Los Santos, Santander, at a depth of approximately 149 kilometers. The tremor was felt in major cities including Bogotá and Bucaramanga, prompting preventive evacuations in several buildings, though no major structural damage or casualties were immediately reported from this specific event.

Further seismic activity was recorded on August 27 with a magnitude 4.4 earthquake in Istmina, Chocó. The country remains on high alert as authorities monitor the 'Bucaramanga seismic nest' and other active zones.

In response to the ongoing crisis, humanitarian efforts are underway. Musician Juan Luis Guerra has joined singer Juanes in the 'Marea Viva' initiative to raise funds for sustainable housing reconstruction in the Chocó department. Additionally, singer Santiago Cruz has pledged a portion of his tour proceeds to support food banks for earthquake victims and drought-affected communities in Tolima.
