Colombia earthquake: Woman rescued after 37 hours dies in hospital
Daniela Largo Sánchez, a 32-year-old woman who became a symbol of hope in Colombia after being rescued from earthquake rubble, has died in the hospital. Largo was trapped for approximately 37 hours in the city of Pereira following a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck western Colombia.
Her family confirmed she passed away on Friday night due to complications following her rescue. Her mother, Sandra Milena Pérez, noted that Largo had been battling cancer and was in remission at the time of the disaster.
The earthquake has caused widespread devastation, leaving at least 294 people dead and nearly 4,000 injured. The cities of Pereira and Cali were among the hardest hit. Disaster management services report that at least 320 people remain missing as rescue efforts continue.
