Colombia election results upheld after Petro's fraud claims rejected
Outgoing President Gustavo Petro alleged extensive foreign interference in Colombia's presidential runoff, citing the United States and Israel, and demanded the vote be annulled. The European Union's Election Observation Mission, which deployed about 150 observers, found no evidence of irregularities, describing the count as transparent, orderly and in compliance with Colombian law.
Petro's preferred successor, Iván Cepeda, conceded defeat to right‑wing outsider Abelardo de la Espriella, who was hailed by international figures including Morocco’s King Mohammed VI. The new president assumes office after a contested but certified election.
