Colombia expands health education with new nursing program and first anesthesiology specialization

The Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina (Areandina) in Colombia has strengthened its nursing education by offering a program that combines innovative teaching, clinical practice and technology. The initiative highlights high‑quality labs, simulation centers and a focus on community health, aiming to prepare over 40,000 students for roles in patient care and health promotion.

At the same time, the Universidad Simón Bolívar (Unisimón) in Cúcuta received Ministry of Education approval to launch the department’s first medical‑surgical postgraduate program: a three‑year Specialization in Anesthesiology. The 188‑credit course will train specialists to manage anesthesia, pain and critical‑care procedures locally, reducing the need for students to relocate for advanced training.
