Pasto expands caregiver and health services

Overview

In late July 2026 the municipality of Pasto kept building on earlier social‑development actions. The city marked National Caregiver Day with a ceremony attended by about 250 caregivers and families, organized by the Secretariat of Social Welfare and the Intersectoral Committee for the Municipal Care System and supported by UN Women, the Nariño governor’s office, ICBF and local welfare groups. The event highlighted municipal commitment to recognizing unpaid care work and improving caregivers’ wellbeing.

Parallel to the caregiver ceremony, Pasto’s “Sisbén Llega a tu Territorio” programme held a second outreach in the rural corregimiento of Catambuco, providing on‑site processing of Sisbén surveys, data updates, household registration and disability certification, thereby sparing residents a trip to the city centre.

On 30 July the city added a mass‑vaccination drive, dubbed a Third National Vaccination Day. Twenty‑three health service providers operated 25 extra‑municipal sites, delivering 958 vaccine doses, predominantly 617 influenza and 98 yellow‑fever shots, along with HPV, measles‑rubella, tetanus and other vaccines. Health Secretary Daniana de la Cruz emphasized the collaboration between municipal authorities, health institutions and the community in expanding coverage, noting that COVID‑19 vaccines were not part of the event.

These initiatives complement the broader Colombian effort launched earlier in July, which included university‑led health‑education programmes, the ADN Dignidad consortium’s shift to emergency response, and Bogotá’s community‑wellness sessions for caregivers, illustrating a coordinated push to strengthen health education, humanitarian services and caregiver support across urban and rural areas.
