Colombia security forces combat rising crime and drone attacks

Colombia is facing a surge in organized crime and insurgent violence across several regions. In Barranquilla, the joint police and army ‘Operación Blindaje 360’ resulted in 72 arrests and the dismantling of five criminal organizations, including the Clan del Golfo and Los Costeños. The operation involved nearly 600 personnel and targeted leaders involved in homicide, extortion, and drug trafficking.

In the Meta region, the Army captured ‘Junior Rojas’, a high-ranking financial leader of FARC dissidents within the Marco Aurelio Buendía structure. The operation in Puerto Rico resulted in three captures and one fatality.

Security forces in the Huila department are facing a new tactical threat as armed groups increasingly use drones to launch explosive attacks against police stations in municipalities such as Teruel, Palermo, and Íquira. This escalation has caused civilian distress and prompted local authorities to implement curfews. Similarly, in Cali, explosive devices targeted police patrols, injuring three officers and prompting the Mayor to offer a 20 million peso reward for information regarding the perpetrators.
