Colombia economic outlook: GDP growth and inflation projections
Economic forecasts for Colombia indicate a period of moderation and fiscal tension. Bancolombia has revised its 2027 GDP growth projection downward to 2.4%, citing factors such as fiscal adjustments, restrictive monetary policy, and the impact of climate shocks like El Niño. While private investment and post-earthquake reconstruction efforts are expected to provide some momentum, household consumption is projected to slow to 2.2% in 2027.
Inflationary pressures remain a primary concern for market analysts. Following an annual inflation rate of 6.24% in August, expectations for the end of 2026 have been raised to 6.82%. This persistent inflation, which remains significantly above the Banco de la República's 3% target, has created uncertainty regarding interest rates. While many analysts expect the central bank to maintain the current 12% rate in its upcoming September meeting, some organizations, including ANIF, anticipate a potential increase of 25 basis points to 12.25%.
