Colombia advances to U-20 Women's World Cup semi-finals
Colombia's U-20 women's national team has advanced to the semi-finals of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland after a dramatic 1-0 quarter-final victory over Nigeria. The match, held in Łódź, remained scoreless for most of the game until Valerín Loboa scored a decisive goal in the second minute of stoppage time. Loboa capitalized on a rebound after her initial shot was blocked by Nigerian goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma.
Nigeria's campaign was further hampered in the 77th minute when Kafayat Mafisere received a straight red card following a VAR review. Despite playing with ten women for the final stages, the Falconets defended aggressively. Nigerian coach Moses Aduku expressed optimism for the future of the squad, noting their performance and the opportunities created during the tournament.
This victory marks Colombia's first appearance in the tournament semi-finals in 16 years, their last being in 2010. Colombia will next face either North Korea or Canada in the semi-finals. The tournament also features other advancing teams including Italy, Spain, and Canada.
