2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup preparations

Overview

Preparations are underway for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland. The United States announced a 21-player roster consisting of eight professional NWSL players and 13 collegiate athletes, with a group stage schedule including matches against Italy, Japan, and New Zealand.

Nigeria, Brazil, and the United States are noted as the only nations to have participated in all 12 editions of the tournament. Nigeria’s Falconets have begun training in Trzebnica following an intensive camp in Abuja. However, the team has faced significant setbacks regarding player availability; captain Joy Igbokwe and defender Faridat Abdulwahab were unable to secure entry visas. Consequently, Vivian Kachi and Alaba Olabiyi have been brought into the squad to replace them. To prepare for their Group F campaign against Spain, China PR, and New Caledonia, the Falconets are scheduled to play friendly matches against Poland and South Korea.

Ghana’s Black Princesses are also intensifying preparations in Poland. The squad has integrated striker Esther Owusu into the camp following her arrival. While managing injuries, including the loss of captain Linda Owusu Ansah to an ACL tear, the team secured a warm-up victory against Ślęza Wrocław and is preparing for an upcoming friendly against Mexico. Ghana is scheduled to open its Group C campaign against Ecuador on September 6.
