Colombia government prepares new military and police leadership

The Colombian government is currently defining a new leadership structure for the National Military Forces and the National Police. President Abelardo De la Espriella is seeking to renew the military and police hierarchy that served under the previous administration of Gustavo Petro.

Defense Minister Jorge Eduardo Mora López and his advisory team are reviewing the profiles of general officers to fill command positions for the National Army, Navy, and Aerospace Force. The selection criteria prioritize operational experience, institutional loyalty, and the ability to align with current government security policies. The administration is also considering reintegrating several officers who had previously left active service during the prior administration.
