Colombia implements interest rate relief for 235,000 ICETEX borrowers

The Colombian government has announced a temporary interest rate subsidy for approximately 235,000 ICETEX educational loan beneficiaries. Supported by an investment exceeding 100,000 million pesos, the measure reduces interest rates to match the Consumer Price Index (CPI + 0 points) for the duration of the available funds.

The initiative targets two specific groups: 64,904 students currently in their academic studies phase and approximately 170,000 users in the amortization phase who are actively repaying their loans. To qualify, users must be up to date with their financial obligations or have a delinquency period not exceeding 30 days. The program prioritizes beneficiaries in conditions of greater vulnerability.

Officials clarified that this is not a debt forgiveness program; the principal amount remains unchanged. Once the allocated resources are exhausted, interest rates will revert to the original terms agreed upon in the financing lines, which typically range from CPI + 7% to CPI + 12%. The benefit is applied automatically to payment receipts.
