Colombia infrastructure recovers two weeks after earthquake

Two weeks after the August 10 earthquake in western Colombia, critical infrastructure is returning to normal operations. Megacable, the aerial cable system integrated into the mass transit network, has resumed commercial service following extensive technical inspections and structural tests. While 34 cabins are currently operating, 16 remain under maintenance. Evaluations conducted alongside the Pereira Mayor's Office found no structural damage to the system, noting that identified issues were limited to facades.

In the telecommunications sector, mobile network infrastructure has moved past the critical contingency phase. Technical reports indicate that 94.7% of affected base stations have fully restored operations. During the peak of the crisis, areas with high seismic intensity saw up to 27% of devices go offline due to battery exhaustion at stations, with the Chocó department experiencing a peak unavailability of 42%. Data shows that infrastructure sharing between providers like Movistar, Tigo, and Claro played a vital role in maintaining connectivity during the recovery period.
