Colombia earthquake infrastructure recovery

Overview

Following an earthquake on August 10 in western Colombia, regional infrastructure has undergone a period of recovery and stabilization.

By late August, critical transportation and telecommunications systems were returning to normal. The Megacable aerial transit system resumed commercial service after inspections found no structural damage, though some cabins remained under maintenance. In the telecommunications sector, approximately 94.7% of affected base stations had restored operations, aided by infrastructure sharing between providers to mitigate connectivity losses caused by battery exhaustion.

By early September, electricity distribution had also stabilized. Celsia, a subsidiary of Grupo Argos, reported the full restoration of its network and the resolution of all operational failures caused by the seismic event. While service has normalized, technical crews continue to monitor the network through inspection strategies.
