Colombia launches dog adoption event in Manizales and offers 12,000 free sterilizations in Bogotá

Manizales hosted a "Doggy Tinder" adoption day on 1 August 2026, organized by the Unidad de Protección Animal (UPA) together with Amoriska Flora Joy and volunteers. The event let prospective owners spend time with rescued dogs before deciding to adopt, aiming to promote responsible ownership and reduce returns.

Bogotá’s municipal government, through the Instituto Distrital de Protección y Bienestar Animal (IDPYBA), opened 12,000 free sterilization slots for dogs and cats during August 2026 under the “Corta a Tiempo” program. Mobile units will serve districts across the city, each offering up to 200 procedures, with eligibility requiring owners to present ID, proof of residence in low‑income strata, and healthy animals over four months old.
