Colombia military operations kill six rebels and cartel members

Following his inauguration, Colombian President Amelardo de la Espriega launched military operations targeting armed groups and drug cartels. The initial operations resulted in the deaths of six individuals: four rebels, including a mid-level commander of a FARC dissident faction in the Meta department, and two members of the Clan del Golfo drug cartel in the Antioquia department.

President de la Espriega signaled a significant shift in national security strategy, stating that the option of dialogue with armed groups has been exhausted. He emphasized a hardline stance, declaring, "there is no location where they can hide," and intending to fight "narcoterrorism and all criminal organizations without respite."

The new administration plans to intensify bombings against traffickers and rebels, seeking assistance from Israel and the United States. Additionally, the President announced intentions to build large prisons, citing the El Salvador model, and signaled an end to the peace negotiations initiated by his predecessor, Gustavo Petro.
