Colombia names ex‑senator Carlos Felipe Mejía as ambassador to Spain
President‑elect Abelardo De La Espriella announced on 20 July that former senator Carlos Felipe Mejía will serve as Colombia’s ambassador to Spain. Mejía, a 63‑year‑old agronomist with a master’s in public management, was a two‑term senator (2014‑2022) and chaired the Senate’s Fifth Commission on agriculture, environment and rural development. The posting is among the first diplomatic appointments of the new government, which will take office on 7 August, and is intended to reinforce cooperation with Spain on investment, trade, tourism, education and support for the Colombian community there.
