Colombia: President appoints new officials and secures earthquake relief
President Abelardo de la Espriella has appointed five professionals from the Boyacá region to high-ranking positions within the Colombian national government. These appointments include the leadership of Invías, Sena, and the National Institute of Health (INS), as well as the Vice Ministry for Social Dialogue and Human Rights and the directorship of Inpec.
In response to the devastating earthquake that struck on August 10, 2026, the President met with major business leaders in Barranquilla to coordinate reconstruction efforts. A key outcome of this meeting was an agreement with financial groups to reduce interest rates on housing credits for earthquake victims to an 8% effective annual rate for the life of the loan. The private sector has also committed to supporting reconstruction projects and developing a special plan for the Chocó region.
