Colombia redistributes Ministry of Equality functions following liquidation

Following a judicial ruling ordering the liquidation of the Ministry of Equality and Equity, President Abelardo de la Espriella has issued directives to redistribute the entity's functions, resources, and programs across the executive branch.

To ensure institutional continuity and prevent gaps in public services, the responsibilities will be fragmented among several departments. Key entities tasked with absorbing these duties include the Ministries of Interior, Finance, and Justice, as well as the Department for Social Prosperity (DPS). The Administrative Department of Public Function has been designated to coordinate this transition and ensure that ongoing investments and projects are not interrupted.

The administration stated that the previous government's liquidation plan lacked an efficient redistribution process, which led to the neglect of programs intended to protect vulnerable populations. The current directive aims to provide a clear and orderly reassignment of responsibilities to safeguard fundamental rights and maintain the implementation of public policies.
