Colombia renews presidential representatives to environmental authorities

The Colombian government has renewed the presidential representatives to the Regional Autonomous Corporations (CAR), the authorities responsible for environmental protection and natural resource management. Through Decree 1281 of 2026, the previous designations from the Petro administration were revoked to strengthen coordination between the national government and regional environmental entities.

This move aims to advance the ABC Agenda (Water, Biodiversity, and Communities), focusing on water management, combating deforestation and illegal mining, promoting bioeconomy, and increasing climate change resilience. The Ministry of Environment seeks to resolve existing disconnects and establish more direct coordination with the CAR as part of the National Environmental System (Sina).

In parallel, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR) is promoting water conservation strategies through its Climate Preparation Route. This initiative encourages citizens and businesses to monitor their water footprint—categorized as blue, green, and gray—to manage resources more efficiently during periods of climate variability, such as El Niño.
