Colombia reports drug seizures, prison escapes, and legal convictions

Several legal and security incidents have been reported across Colombia. In Medellín, a joint operation by the Army, Police, and Prosecutor's Office targeted the criminal group ‘La Terraza,’ resulting in the arrest of an individual known as ‘Grafiti’ and the seizure of over 23 kilograms of marijuana, 1,155 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, and 854 grams of cocaine base.

In El Bagre, Antioquia, three detainees escaped from a police station during the early hours of October 17, allegedly after cutting through metal bars. While one individual was recaptured and another arrested for suspected collaboration, two suspects remain at large.

In Cali, the Superior Court ratified a 12-month prison sentence for José Gustavo Fierro, a former coordinator for the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF). Fierro was found guilty of sexual harassment against a colleague between 2019 and 2021, leveraging his hierarchical position to commit the offenses. He is also barred from holding public office during his sentence.

Additionally, in Yarumal, authorities are investigating a suspected mass food poisoning following a ‘Family Day’ event organized by the local Mayor's Office. Twelve people required medical attention after reporting symptoms such as vomiting and abdominal pain after consuming food provided during the celebration.
